Alden Sampson and Guide Colorado Photograph - 1884
Photograph of Alden Sampson and guide. On the back of the photo is written A.S. Cal, 1884. Then in a different hand is written Alden Sampson and guide - Colorado 1884. Sampson had a studio in New York City at 168 East 52 Street with artist Phimister Proctor. The building was a three story double studio building, whose design Sampson and Proctor commissioned in 1911 from McKim, Mead and White. Little however is know about Alden Sampson, except that he traveled to California in the 1880's and this photo was taken on that trip in Colorado. The photo itself is 7 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches and mounted on stiff cardboard which makes it 8 1/2" x 5 1/4 inches. The photo is identified as 43 in the bottom right hand corner. The photo is in vg condition. The card has a small rip in the top center border which does not penetrate the photo.
