Rare and attractive Schippach imprint, written for the religious education of the children of the Mennonite Community, in what is now known as Skippack, Pennsylvania. Lessons include teachings about the creation of the world, the fall of man, Old Testament stories, the Gospels, and commandments. The final chapter is on the organization of the Mennonite Community.


The origin of the name "Skippack" comes from early German settlers, who moved west from Philadelphia and settled in Montgomery County. They originally spelled it Schippach, named after a town of the same name in the Bayern region of Germany South East of Frankfurt.

4 ½ x 3 inches. 112 pp. Original white sheep skin; binding evenly soiled, a bit rubbed at the edge, some minor browning and a bit of staining to the paper stock. Overall a very good copy with the signature of “John Rittenhouse 1849” on front pastedown. OCLC cites one copy at Ursinus College, PA. 534).
