JOHN COOK, 212 1/2 RIVER STREET, TROY, N.Y., MANUFACTURER, AND WHOLESALE AND RETAIL DEALER IN HATS, CAPS, AND FURS, RESPECTFULLY INVITES THE ATTENTION OF COUNTRY MERCHANTS, TO HIS FULL AND COMPLETE (sic) ASSORTMENT OF GOODS. Kneeland and Co.'s Steam Press. c. 1848. 16 x 11 3/4 inch broadside printed in gold ink on a glossy indigo sheet with ornamental border. Slightly rubbed but overall in vg cond. Kneeland and Company's Steam Press were in operation in Troy, New York until about 1850. The one copy of this broadside, which according to OCLC is held by the American Antiquarian Society, dates the broadside to the 1840's. John Cook (1819-1905) was trained as a lawyer who also was in mercantile life. He first opened his business in Troy, NY and later moved to Rutland, Vermont where he operated a grocery. A very nice copy of a rare broadside.
