The Lieut. Elisha Nye Peirce Civil War archive. In total there are twenty-nine letters and other papers relating to the civil war experience of Lieut. Peirce who was a Lieut. in the United States Signal Corp stationed at Newbern, North Carolina. Also included are Peirce's diary beginning on April 26, 1861. He has written on 44 pages about his experiences along with a listing of others who served with him at Newbern, North Carolina. Also, there are twenty-eight General Orders; a second diary probably written by one of his sons on a trip which was made between Boston and Chicago for the travel cost of $16.00. There are twenty-two letters of miscellaneous correspondence along with nineteen pieces of miscellaneous materials including thirty-eight letters to various people, an account book dated Jan. 1860, deeds of land, a Camp Meade newspaper for 1898 and a trade catalog from Peirce Bros, c. 1920. In total an outstanding Civil War archive. It is especially rare to find an archive having to do with the Signal Corp during the civil war. All very legible and in vg cond.
